About

Ciao!

I'm a native Texan with a slight northern accent thanks to my relatives, who are all from the Chicago area. I currently live in Houston with Handy Husband and our two boxers, Duke and Mylie.

I have more hobbies than I have time for but getting rid of one would be like choosing which limb I no longer wanted. If it's crafty, I've probably tried it, and if I was even halfway satisfied with the results, I probably still do it. I've enjoyed photography since I was young, and in 2010 I had the opportunity (*cough* I was laid off from my real job) to pursue portrait photography as a career, and Kristin Rae Photography was born!

I started this blog to document my journey as I scratch my way toward the goal of being a published author. Writing is another thing I started at an early age. Teachers often commented on my descriptiveness, and I was told early on--by a person in the publishing industry, no less!--that I should seriously consider pursuing it as an adult. In 2005, just before I graduated from Texas A&M (Whoop!) with a B.S. in Sociology, a story popped into my head and wouldn't leave me alone. But unfortunately, after a year of working on it, I left the story alone, frustrated and uninspired. Over the next couple of years, I pulled it back out, and eventually finished it, diving head first into researching the publishing industry, joining a writers guild and a spin-off critique group, and starting my own blog.

I am in love with Italy and got the opportunity to spend a week there with Handy and some friends of ours in 2009. (Shameless plug: I have prints from my trip, as well as other various things, listed on my online Etsy store. ) It was this love of Italy--along with a growing interest in contemporary YA in addition to the paranormal--that inspired my current WIP. I've never been more excited about one of my own stories (or more desperate to go back to Italy for "research"), and I hope to be able to share it with you one day.
