which I had been dying to do since my trip to Italy in 2009.
In June, I finally came up with the title If Only You Were Italian, and I'm happy to say that I still love it.
Then over the last couple months, you've all heard me whine about how close I've been to finishing the first draft, pushing my self-imposed deadline out again and again (because apparently I don't do self-imposed deadlines). Well, i'm proud to say, that Saturday morning at 2:30am on the dot, the last chapter was completed!! I tweeted my good news but all my cheerleaders had long been asleep for the night. I wasn't completely alone though--my Australian followers were very willing to throw streamers at me! *waves to Jade and the gang*
Now that the celebrating has happened and one of my critique partners has now read everything I've written on this story, the reality of the revisions before me has set in. So many things need to change. So many things I thought were smart when I wrote them are, in fact, LAME. Sigh. But that's the fun of it right? Transforming the bare bones (that may or may not be 15-20k words too long) into a story with good flow, pacing, and character development so that everyone in the world (that likes YA Contemporary) will want to read it!
*rolls up sleeves*
HERE GOES!
How's YOUR story coming?? Any revision tips or methods to share?

SQUEE!! Way to go, Kristin!
ReplyDeleteI'm hip deep in what feels like the bazillionth revision of my WIP (and wondering if I've already over-edited), so I'm probably not the best person to give tips. LOL Good luck. I know you can do it. =o)
Yay!!! Congratulations!!! I hope you're celebrating! Also, your pictures are so vibrant and beautiful! You're giving me wanderlust. :)

ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Kristin!! That's so exciting! Here's a great quote to keep you motivated through those revisions: "I love revisions. Where else in life can spilled milk be transformed into ice cream?" ~Katherine Paterson
ReplyDeleteIf you need more motivation and inspiration, I did a Monday Quote Day post last December just on revision quotes: http://lauramarcella.blogspot.com/2011/12/monday-quote-day-on-revision.html
Have fun and good luck!!
Yay Kristin! That's super exciting!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy for you Kristin! The end is awesome.
ReplyDeleteACK! We're in the same place, it seems. Just got my notes back from the crit girls and things must change and add in with mine too. I love how brilliant I think I am in my head as I write. ;) Oh well. Good luck to you on your revisions and know you have a comrade in arms just across the bloggy-way.
ReplyDeleteBut also, Congrats on finishing! Enjoy that part as much as you can!
ReplyDeleteOkay...now I'll say it. YAY!!!!!! Way to go girl! Enjoy it, because that is no easy feat! Now get busy with those revisions! :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Kristin! I didn't realize just how close you were to finishing, but YAY!!! :D And in Italy, too, those photos are beautiful! You're on your way there, and I'm betting that is a great great feeling. Good luck as you start the next part in revising. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you! *crosses fingers*
ReplyDeleteDon't get too bummed about those edits. You've finished the hardest part. WOOT! Sure revisions can be a bummer, but you know you can do them since you just WROTE A WHOLE NOVEL!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is something to be ecstatic over:)
Congrats again! Revisions can be fun too...sometimes. Good Luck! Oh and my tip is to not tackle too much at once. Revisions are important and there's no sense in rushing. Take the time to get it right. Trust me, I learned this the hard way :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on finishing! And did you take those photos? They are excellent.
ReplyDeleteCongrats! I wanna read...
ReplyDeleteCongrats and best wishes for all your editing still to come!
