Answers to your Questions Part 2!

Wow so this is a LONG time coming. I didn't completely forget about it... I just never finished answering all your lovely questions (from like, August)!! Silly blonde girl!

Okay, DL Hammons asked:

1) When was the first time somebody made a fuss over something you had written.

2) Which position do you prefer? Writing at a desk or splayed out somewhere with a laptop?

My Answers:

1)  Of course mother's are always our biggest supporters right?  I was always writing silly stories and drawing pictures growing up that she gushed over and hung on the fridge.  But one thing that sticks out in my mind is when I first started really taking writing seriously. I just wanted to give it a shot and see what came out of my brain. I don't even think I told anyone (I still don't tell too many people in my day to day world), but when my grandma was visiting I chanced it and showed her what I had written so far. It was only two chapters, which have since almost COMPLETELY changed, but she read through them as she was laying in bed one night during her visit. She knocked on my door and came flying to my bedside demanding more right away. I didn't have any more to give her at the time, but she pretty much talked me into making a go of it.

2) When my laptop was functioning, I actually liked writing on the couch with my computer on my lap.  But now that I have a desktop monster, I pretty much have to sit at a desk, unless I write by hand in a notebook. In that case, I like to sit outside or sprawl out on a blanket in the sunshine.

Answers to Your Questions Part 1

A couple of weeks ago, I asked you for your questions--what was it that you, my faithful bloggers, wanted to know about yours truly?  Here is round one of Kristin Creative Q&A!

Q1- Crystal Cook asked, "How long have you been writing and how do you stay motivated?"

A1 - I remember when I was about 10 years old, I was home schooled at that time in life, and I went to my local home school group's activity day.  In one of our classes, we had to write a little story, complete with illustrations (or maybe I just wanted to illustrate it, because at that time, I was going to be an illustrator for Disney, of course).  The woman who was the guest "teacher" for that session pulled me and my mom aside after the class and said that I had potential as a writer.  (A ten year old?  Seriously?)  Come to find out, I'm pretty sure she was an editor for either a newspaper or a publisher or something (hence why she was brought in for our class), and she gave my mom all sorts of information so that I might be encouraged to keep at it.  Well, I was excited about that idea, but all I wanted to do was draw (now I can hardly draw a stick figure, but when I was young and had patience for it, I was much better than I am now).  The week before I graduated college in December of 2005, a story popped into my head and I couldn't stop writing it.  I even snuck in paper to my graduation ceremony (which was LONG--the only part I paid attention to was the speech by Barbara Bush! And yes, I did meet her!) so I could keep my ideas flowing.  Over the next couple of years I got frustrated and put it aside, then I'd work on it some more, put it aside. Then in 2009, something kicked my thoughts into gear and I finished that story (Between the Letters... it's now shelved awaiting some serious revisions or a paranormal twist), and have started two others (Still Loving Ghosts, and Anemone), and have ideas for several more.  My motivation now I guess comes from being inspired.  I read a lot, and often I think, well if they got published, I can do it too! And not even necessarily in a snarky way... I just choose to be encouraged as I read others work, that it's possible... that my stories (my new ones anyway) might actually make it somewhere.  I write because I love it (it's obviously not going to make me rich, so that's not even a thought), and because the stories in my head are itching to get out.  I stay motivated because I dream of seeing my published book on a shelf in Borders one day.  :) 

Ok, that was a really long answer and I don't even want to know how many typos I made. I'll just leave you with that for today!  Be on the lookout for round 2!

I started an impromtu question session on Saturday, so here is my big post about it.

My regular blog followers probably have a good handle on my personality, quirks and writing method, but maybe there are some things I haven't covered that You're a bit curious about? 

Maybe you want to know about my WIP?  How I come up with names for my characters?  My shoe size?  As long as you don't ask about the earth's gravitational pull on my body (sore subject!), it's all good! lol.

I've already got a good list of questions building from Saturday, so any new ones I get will be added to it, and I'll work on the answers over the next couple of weeks, probably spreading them out a bit.  Sounds like fun, yes?!  I know I always like reading when other bloggers do these, so I figured it was my turn.

On a side note, you all know by now that I've been laid off from my job (done officially in September) and I'm trying to build up my portrait photography business.  I had a Maternity/Family photo shoot this past Saturday and I've put some up on my photography blog.  Have a looksie!  If you appreciate photography at all, feel free to follow that blog and/or comment.  I am always interested to hear which photos strike people most--it helps me further develop my style, and learn which editing techniques work the best.  Here is a teaser to tempt you to check out the rest!
